Weaving the Future – ASEAN Youth Climate Action 2026
OBJECTIVE:
On 18 June 2026, UCSI University was honoured to host the regional launch of the ASEAN Youth ESG Initiative by Shanghai Climate Week, Weave the Future, bringing together students, academics, industry representatives, and sustainability advocates from across the region. The event served as a platform for youth engagement in Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) and sustainable development, featuring inspiring art installations and exhibition booths by students from UCSI University, Universiti Malaya, UTAR, TAR UMT, and Fudan University. Through creativity and artistic expression, participants showcased innovative ideas that encouraged greater awareness and action towards a more sustainable future.
The programme also featured a series of thought-provoking forums exploring key themes such as creating global opportunities for youth in scientific and technological innovation, advancing sustainable development through artistic ESG co-creation, driving innovation in sustainable materials and renewable energy, and empowering young entrepreneurs through green venture acceleration. These discussions highlighted the importance of collaboration between universities, industries, and communities in developing practical sustainability solutions while nurturing the next generation of changemakers.
UCSI University was privileged to welcome Malaysia’s Minister of Natural Resources and Environmental Sustainability, YB Dato’ Sri Arthur Joseph Kurup, and MCA President, YB Datuk Seri Ir Dr Wee Ka Siong. Their presence reinforced the significance of youth-led sustainability initiatives and the collective commitment to building a more sustainable, inclusive, and resilient future. The event successfully demonstrated how creativity, innovation, and partnerships can empower young people to contribute meaningfully to lasting positive change in ASEAN and beyond.
