At UCSI University, sustainability is built upon a foundation of integrity. This commitment is deeply embedded in the very identity of our institution. Integrity is one of the core values of UCSI Group, alongside audacity, perseverance and excellence. This is not a coincidence but a deliberate reflection of our steadfast belief that a truly sustainable institution is one where ethical practice is not merely encouraged but meticulously upheld across both academic and administrative fields, and where every individual feels valued, respected and empowered to thrive.
Our commitment to Ethics and Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (DEI) forms the bedrock of our academic and community life, ensuring a just, harmonious and progressive environment for all.
Upholding Academic and Integrity Ethical Practices
Our approach to academic ethical oversight is guided by the UCSI Institutional Ethics Committee (IEC). The IEC ensures that all research and academic activities involving human participants adhere to the highest ethical standards, safeguarding the dignity, rights and welfare of all individuals.
This includes strict protocols for informed consent, data privacy and the declaration of any potential conflicts of interest. By providing clear guidelines, mandatory forms and structured review processes, we ensure that innovation and discovery are pursued with integrity. For more information, UCSI’s ethical guidelines and procedures can be accessed here.
Embedding Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI)
Beyond regulatory compliance, we actively cultivate a campus culture rooted in the principles of DEI. Our dedication reflects our national aspiration for a harmonious, prosperous, progressive and sustainable Malaysia, aligned with the objectives of the Rukun Negara and the global call for peaceful and just societies (SDG 16).
This vision is brought to life through our flagship Harmoni-Mesra initiative. Harmoni-Mesra is more than a programme; it is a guiding philosophy that champions unity in diversity. It seeks to create an environment where individuals from all backgrounds, regardless of race, religion, culture, gender or ability, feel a genuine sense of belonging.
Through this initiative, a DEI policy was created to embrace the distinct yet interrelated concepts of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion:
- Diversity: We celebrate the rich tapestry of backgrounds, perspectives and experiences within our community.
- Equity: We are committed to ensuring fair treatment, equal access, opportunity and advancement for all, striving to identify and eliminate barriers that have prevented the full participation of underrepresented groups.
- Inclusion: We foster a culture where every individual feels welcomed, respected, supported and valued to fully participate and contribute.
To ensure these principles are effectively implemented across the university, the Talent Acquisition, Ethics and Culture Office under Group Human Resources oversees all aspects of DEI and ethical conduct within our community. Led by a designated staff member, this office serves as a central point for organising training, managing policies, addressing concerns and championing initiatives that promote fairness, respect and a culture of integrity throughout the university.
Our Commitment
UCSI University’s dedication to Ethics and DEI is an ongoing journey. With the Group Talent Acquisition, Ethics and Culture Office providing central oversight, we ensure that our commitment to ethical compliance and inclusive practices is consistently upheld. By integrating these principles, we are building a campus where academic excellence flourishes alongside personal growth and social responsibility, nurturing not only knowledgeable graduates but also ethical leaders equipped with the integrity and empathy to thrive in a diverse and interconnected world.
