UCSI University Staff Induction

OBJECTIVE:

UCSI University Staff Induction: UCSI & Sustainability was conducted on 9 September 2026 and presented by Leong Sat Sing, Vice President of the Group Sustainability Office. The session introduced staff to UCSI University’s commitment to sustainability and highlighted the importance of understanding sustainability as part of the university’s broader institutional direction.

The presentation provided an overview of key sustainability concepts, including the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) principles. Staff were introduced to the three key dimensions of ESG—Environment, Social and Governance—and how these areas relate to topics such as emissions, energy, waste, diversity and inclusion, occupational health and safety, human rights, policies, risk management and anti-corruption.

The session also connected sustainability to everyday workplace practices and individual responsibility. Staff were encouraged to recognise how personal consumption, waste generation, energy use and workplace behaviour contribute to broader sustainability challenges, while also understanding the importance of responsible governance and a respectful working environment. The presentation concluded by emphasising that every individual can contribute to positive change, reinforcing the idea that small actions can create a wider ripple of impact.
