Trash or Treasure? The Hidden Value of Food Waste

OBJECTIVE:

On 5 August 2026, UCSI University hosted “Trash or Treasure? The Hidden Value of Food Waste”, a panel discussion and workshop display organised by Youth Beyond Boundaries (YBB). Held at the Breadboard Room, Block G, Level 11, the session brought together participants to explore the environmental impacts of food waste and the importance of adopting more sustainable approaches to food waste management.

The programme featured Mr. Wan Emir Astak from ReMeal and Ms. Mae Ooi from MAEKO, who shared valuable insights on sustainable food waste management, composting, and circular waste practices. The session also included a MAEKO product demonstration on food waste composting, showcasing how food waste can be processed into useful resources through sustainable waste management solutions.

Through engaging discussions, demonstrations, and learning activities, the programme encouraged participants to develop more sustainable habits and consider practical ways to reduce food waste. The initiative reflects Youth Beyond Boundaries’ commitment to raising sustainability awareness, promoting circular economy practices, and empowering young people to take meaningful action towards a more sustainable future.
