Start Something That Matters

OBJECTIVE:

The forum, organised by Jonas Wong Chi Lok and the Class of SM346 Mass Communication Project September 2025, Bachelor of Arts (Hons) in Mass Communications, Faculty of Social Sciences & Liberal Arts, UCSI University Kuala Lumpur Campus, engaged approximately 40 UCSI students, many with entrepreneurial aspirations, on the topic of sustainability and the 3Ps (Planet, People, and Profit). The discussion emphasized the growing importance of sustainability considerations in business decision-making and addressed international expectations for ESG compliance, particularly in major markets such as the EU and US. As part of the session, students were introduced to Value Food, a local start-up that sells about-to-expire food at 60–85% discounts via its app, demonstrating how sustainable practices can minimize waste, enable businesses to recover costs, and provide consumers with more affordable options. Khang Chiang, a recent UCSI graduate, also shared how his entrepreneurial spirit led to the creation of three new start-ups, inspiring students to explore sustainable business opportunities.
