SMG Mega Mangrove Cleanup
OBJECTIVE:
On 26 July 2026, UCSI University proudly participated in the SMG Mega Mangrove Cleanup held at Mangrove Point, Raja Lumu Permanent Forest Reserve, Port Klang. Organised by Landasan Lumayan Sdn Bhd (LLSB) in conjunction with World Mangrove Day 2026, the programme brought together over 1,600 participants from various organisations, institutions, and communities in a collective effort to protect and restore Malaysia’s mangrove ecosystem. A total of 25 UCSI students and staff took part in the initiative.
Held under the theme “Restoring Ecosystems, Renewing Futures,” the programme achieved remarkable environmental impact, with volunteers collecting 5,350 kg of waste from the mangrove forest and planting 1,000 mangrove saplings to support ecosystem restoration. The event was also recognised by the Malaysia Book of Records (MBOR) as the Largest Participation in a Single Mangrove Forest Cleanup Programme, reflecting the strong commitment of Malaysians towards environmental conservation.
Representing UCSI University, the participating students and staff actively contributed to the cleanup efforts while gaining valuable hands-on experience in environmental stewardship and sustainable ecosystem management. The initiative provided an opportunity to better understand the ecological importance of mangrove forests in preserving biodiversity, protecting coastlines from erosion, and enhancing climate resilience.
