KunKwan Day @ UCSI: Celebrating Cultural Harmony and Lifelong Learning

On 28 June at GG08, UCSI University hosted KunKwan Day, a marketing and promotional event organized by KunKwan Academy — a fast-growing centre dedicated to teaching Mandarin to the Malay community. Notable students of KunKwan include KJ, Nori, a Selangor princess, and several government officers.

The event celebrated the graduation of 50 working adults, with over 100 attendees in total. Graduates delivered short speeches in Mandarin, and performances such as Malay students singing Chinese songs highlighted the spirit of cultural harmony.

UCSI was given a 30-minute slot during the event to promote its Master’s, PhD, and Open and Distance Learning (ODL) programmes. In addition, KunKwan shared participant data for future engagement. The event received wide media coverage, including from Bernama TV, Selangor TV, Malay-language media outlets, and several influencers. The CEO of Bernama was also in attendance.

The collaboration between UCSI and KunKwan is set to expand, with discussions underway for a multicultural singing contest titled Suara Semua, which could be featured as part of UCSI’s 40th Anniversary celebrations in 2026.

As more small, fast-growing academies and colleges like KunKwan emerge, UCSI is actively exploring pathways for their students — including working adults — to continue their education through UCSI’s Bachelor’s, Master’s, and PhD programmes. Over the past 11 years, KunKwan has reached more than 370,000 Malay and non-Chinese individuals through both online and physical Mandarin courses — a testament to its reach and potential for meaningful collaboration.
