Building towers for building futures: UCSI brings STEM to life for 37 young students

OBJECTIVE:

On 13 May 2026, UCSI University’s Faculty of Engineering, Technology and Built Environment (FETBE) collaborated with SMK Seri Mutiara, Cheras for the Stick Tower Challenge during Pameran STEM 2026. Guided by Dr. Ramani Bai Varadharajan and Ir. Dr. Lee Jin Chai, 37 secondary school students explored engineering concepts through a fun, hands-on activity focused on teamwork, creativity, and problem-solving.

The workshop created a meaningful impact, with 84% of students enjoying the activity and a significant rise in confidence and interest towards STEM learning. Students discovered how structural design, stability, and collaboration play important roles in engineering while gaining exposure to university-level STEM experiences in an engaging and accessible way.

This initiative supports SDG 4: Quality Education and SDG 17: Partnerships for the Goals, reflecting the importance of university-school collaborations in inspiring future innovators and strengthening community engagement through education.
