Sustainability @ UCSI University: Empowering Students for a Sustainable Future
OBJECTIVE:
The Sustainability @ UCSI University session held during the UCSI Student Orientation on 24 September 2026 introduced new students to the importance of sustainability and their role in contributing towards a more responsible and sustainable future. The session was presented by Mr Leong Sat Sing, Vice President of the Group Sustainability Office, who shared insights into key sustainability challenges and the importance of collective action in addressing them.
The session highlighted how sustainability extends beyond environmental concerns and is closely connected to social and economic responsibilities. Students were encouraged to recognise the relevance of sustainability across different fields of study and understand how their knowledge, skills and future careers can contribute towards addressing global sustainability challenges.
The session also encouraged students to embrace sustainable practices in their daily lives, including reducing waste, conserving resources, minimising single-use plastics and making more responsible choices. Through the session, students were reminded that meaningful change can begin with simple individual actions and that every member of the UCSI community has a role to play in building a more sustainable future.
