Where does Southeast Asia stand on the Sustainable Development Goals?
OBJECTIVE:
UCSI University welcomed Distinguished Prof Dato’ Dr Rajah Rasiah for a thought-provoking session under the UCSI International Institute of Science Diplomacy and Sustainability (UCSI-IISDS) Lecture Series.
Titled “Achieving the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals: Where Does Southeast Asia Stand?”, the lecture examined Southeast Asia’s progress towards the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), alongside the challenges and opportunities shaping the region’s development journey.
Drawing on research and his extensive expertise in economics, innovation, industrial development and sustainable development, Prof Rajah explored key areas including poverty, health, education, clean energy, inequality, climate action and peace. The session also considered how AI and digitalisation can support more inclusive, resilient and sustainable outcomes across Southeast Asia.
The lecture brought together distinguished guests, academics, industry representatives and students for an exchange of perspectives on the practical actions needed to advance the SDGs in the region.
Organised by UCSI-IISDS, the Science Diplomacy and Sustainability Lecture Series provides a platform for leading thinkers, researchers and practitioners to address pressing global challenges at the intersection of science, policy and sustainable development.
