Carey Island Mangrove Restoration
OBJECTIVE:
Students and staff from UCSI SABE, together with the UCSI Group Sustainability Office, joined forces at Carey Island on 7 February to plant mangrove saplings for a greener, more sustainable future. The day started with a briefing by the Forestry Department, where participants learned about the important role mangroves play in preventing coastal erosion, supporting marine life, and sustaining local livelihoods.
A total of 200 mangrove saplings were planted that day, marking a meaningful contribution towards coastal restoration and climate resilience.
Thanks to the generous sponsorship from EUPE and the excellent organisation by TrEES, our students had the valuable opportunity to contribute to environmental conservation efforts that benefit both nature and the kampung community. This activity was more than just planting trees — it was about planting hope for stronger communities and a healthier planet.
