OBJECTIVE:

The World Optometry Day (WOD) event for the current year revolved around the theme “Advancing Optometry’s Commitment to Global Eye Care.” Organized by the UCSI School of Optometry (SOO) in collaboration with the School of Optometry Student Association (SOOSA), this event enlisted the support of key collaborator, the Focus Point Vision Care Group. Targeting 100 orphanage and underprivileged students across Selangor and Kuala Lumpur, this program is anticipated to span approximately three months. The event primarily centered on delivering comprehensive eye examinations to underprivileged and orphanage individuals. Over a two-hour duration, final-year optometry students administered the examinations under the supervision of in-house qualified optometrists. The assessments included determination of refractive status, evaluation of binocular status, and examination of ocular health.Focus Point Vision Care Group generously sponsored 70 pairs of spectacles for the targeted population, facilitating access to corrective eyewear for those in needed.
