Charity Visit to Hospital Tunku Azizah Pediatric Ward
OBJECTIVE:
Dr. Chow has organized a charity visit to the Pediatric Ward (ward 11A) at Hospital Tunku Azizah located at Hospital Kuala Lumpur on the 24th April 2024. The hospital’s regulation only allows 5 visitors during the charity visit. Therefore, only 4 students were recruited for this visit. Dr. Chow has raised RM400 funds from the lecturers in the Department of Electrical and Electronic Engineering. These funds were used to buy 50 pax of assorted gifts for 50 sick children. The gifts are stationery sets, stickers, pop-it toys, and cotton towels.
Since the sick children have lower immunity, the Matron brought us to visit 6 children who are more stable and stronger. The hospital takes every measure to prevent visitors from passing any virus from one bed to another. Therefore, the nurses passed the remaining gifts to the rest of the children. During the visit, we gave the gifts to the children and encourage the children to get well soon. We also spoke to their mothers and listened to their sharing about the condition of their children. It was heart-warming for the mothers to have visitors who were not only bringing gifts but also caring for them. The 4 Electrical and Electronic (EE) students were very moved during the hospital visit.
This project has given them a mixed feeling. Although they felt blessed to be healthy and able to attend tertiary education, they also felt sympathy for the sick children as young as newborns who were suffering in the hospital. In their evaluation, all of them wrote “Yes” to doing something in future to bless the sick or poor children. Some of them even give examples of what they will do in future.
