UCSI Students Contribute to Sustainable Irrigation System Project at Mid Valley River 3

OBJECTIVE:

UCSI University students from the Mechanical Engineering program participated in a collaborative project at Mid Valley River 3. The event, which included from two other universities, was led by Mr. Kennedy, who introduced the students to various Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) related to their ongoing projects.

The focus of the project was the development of an efficient irrigation system designed to support sustainable water management for the plants along the river. Students were tasked with conducting proper measurements and discussing the most effective methods for implementing an automated watering system. The system will use piping to supply water to plants based on real-time soil moisture levels, facilitated by strategically placed soil sensors.

Two groups of students were each allocated RM1500 to purchase the necessary materials and make key decisions regarding the optimal locations for the sensors. Through this hands-on experience, UCSI students gained invaluable insights into the practical application of engineering solutions in line with SDG 6: Clean Water and Sanitation, as well as SDG 15: Life on Land.

This project exemplifies UCSI’s commitment to promoting sustainability and encouraging students to develop innovative solutions that can make a real-world impact.
