Storage Solution Design for Star of the Sea Kindergarten

OBJECTIVE:

The Star of the Sea Kindergarten on Pangkor Island strives to enhance its learning environment within budget constraints. The design philosophy prioritizes versatility, movability, and functionality, ensuring a positive impact on education while being cost-effective and easy to implement. Challenges such as termite issues are met with a focus on durability through termite-proof materials, aligning with budget constraints and promoting sustainability using locally available resources. The material selection centers around the inherent beauty and versatility of industrial crates, embodying Pangkor Island’s identity. These termite-proof plastic crates serve various functions, emphasizing simplicity and practicality.

The design methodology explores the enchanting allure of crates, envisioning diverse organizational systems within steel frames, combining storage solutions with playful features.

The product design consists of two components, each offering unique functionalities. Component A showcases slanted display crates with a front pull-out drawer system, while Component B includes front and side pull-out drawers along with a drawing board system, creating a comprehensive solution for storage and creative workspaces.

This innovation extends beyond kindergartens, reaching Pangkor community homes, aiming to provide adaptable play systems for families. Emphasizing local materials and the versatile beauty of crates, the design establishes a meaningful connection with Pangkor’s lifestyle. It not only enhances storage and play but also empowers parents to recreate the system at home, fostering togetherness and celebrating the rich culture of Pangkor.
