KUALA LUMPUR – UCSI University teamed up with ProQuest Consulting Sdn Bhd to host the ESG Learning Festival, an event focused on empowering students and industry leaders to champion environmental, social and governance initiatives in their respective capacities.

Addressing the increasing demands of sustainability practice and employment trends, the event served as a platform for UCSI’s students and faculty to engage directly with industry leaders and ESG experts, enhancing their understanding of the real-world implications of these concepts.

Realising the importance of equipping oneself with ESG knowledge, Valencia Tania, a second-year chemical engineering student, expressed her intention to focus on renewable energy and sustainability.

“Reducing carbon footprints and arriving at net zero are challenging,” she said. “We need to start now as the future of our planet and lives around the world are at stake.”

“This ESG event has given me different perspectives. I can start contributing to change in my own capacity and although the impact may not be big at first, it can snowball in time.

“I’ll start with baby steps and I hope more students will do the same. We can do more together.”

Throughout the event, industry experts shared their knowledge on how ESG can drive innovation and long-term success in business, as well as the important role educational institutions play in preparing the workforce of the future.

“We are proud to work with ESG-associated entities like UCSI that have a major impact on the community,” said ProQuest co-founder Alan Low, who was also one of the panels discussing ethical leadership and the integration of ESG practices in business strategy.

“This festival is just one example of how academic institutions can equip future generations with the tools needed to tackle the challenges of tomorrow—responsibly and sustainably. We are excited to contribute to this ongoing educational effort.”

The ESG Learning Festival drew over 100 attendees, including faculty members, students and professionals committed to sustainable practices in their respective fields.

UCSI University is ranked seventh in the world for environmental sustainability in the QS World University Rankings: Sustainability 2025, strengthening UCSI’s position as Malaysia’s top private university in the ESG rankings, placing sixth out of 29 Malaysian universities in the exercise.
