UCSI University successfully promoted the spirit of “Malaysia Madani,” celebrating cultural diversity as a unifying force during the Diwali Festival of Illumination at Pavilion Bukit Jalil.
42 students from UCSI University and UCSI College joined forces to transform Pavilion Bukit Jalil into a vibrant celebration by creating a 1,500 ft² kolam for the mall’s Deepavali festivities. This impressive artwork became a major attraction on the second floor of the popular mall and took over nine hours to complete. Two more kolams were also created, measuring 225 ft² and 144 ft², respectively.
The initiative was led by students from UCSI’s Institute of Creative Arts and Design, who aimed to promote the spirit of unity and “Malaysia Madani” during Deepavali. Not only did the students showcase their talent and creativity, but they also gained a deeper understanding of the cultural significance of Deepavali and the rich heritage of kolam artwork.
The kolam and the vibrant decorations reflect the multicultural harmony that lies at the heart of Malaysia’s rich heritage. They serve as a tribute to Diwali and a reminder of the importance of togetherness in everyday life.
This event highlighted the significance of understanding and embracing each other’s differences, resonating with Malaysia’s “Harmoni-Mesra” values of fostering understanding, friendship and cultural exchange. It emphasised Malaysia’s identity as a multicultural nation that deserves celebration for its diversity.
The event was honoured by the presence of UCSI College Board of Governors chairperson Datin Lily Ng, UCSI College president and chief executive officer Assoc Prof Dr Mabel Tan Hwee Joo and De Institute of Creative Arts and Design head of events Asst Prof Ts Lucas Lim.
