In March 2018, UCSI University hosted the SDG Conference for the first time. The conference assembled students from higher institutions, global experts, development practitioners, academics, and industry leaders to share their experiences and best practices on how to break down the barriers to achieve sustainable development goals.

At the “SDGs – Is Malaysia Prepared?” Conference, participants shared their initiatives, knowledge and opinion about SDGs with the audience. As a result of the Conference, UCSI is committed to play its role as a higher learning institution and together with its associate companies in the UCSI Group, to inculcate values and practices within its premises and among its staff and students in support of the United Nation’s Sustainable Development Goals.

Since then, various awareness and engagement programmes have been organised to enable more UCSI staff and students to understand and embrace steps that promote sustainability in their lives. Hundreds of SDG related events have been organised since 2018 and gradually sustainability knowledge and principles are incorporated in all the learning courses.

With the continual advocacy in Education for Sustainable Development (ESD), UCSI has since been recognised by the United Nations University as the
Regional Centre of Expertise (RCE); in its Kuching campus (RCE Kuching) in December 2018 and its Kuala Lumpur campus (RCE Greater Kuala Lumpur) in September 2021.
